The husband-wife music team of Roy and Marianne Lanham will appear in Jacksonville June 15 along with John and Jack Mitchum and Rome Johnson in a performance scheduled for 7 pm at the Britt Music Festival grounds.
Roy Lanham has been with the Sons of the Pioneers for 20 years and has worked extensively with Roy Rogers. Lanham's group "The Whippoorwills" toured with Gene Austin. Besides being on WLW, Cincinnati, Ohio, Lanham has worked with many country music artists and made many recordings.
Marianne began her singing career in New Jersey when she was 16 years old. Her vocal style resembles that of the late Sophie Tucker. She and Roy met on WLW radio.
Lanham is noted for his cool, quick wit. Early once morning after a club engagement in Burbank, Calif., the Lanhams' car caught fire due to faulty ignition. Marianne reminded Roy that his guitar was in the trunk of the car. Returning a blank look, Roy said, "I don't feel like playing."
